93 Sqn Linebook No. 2 - Page 35 The start of 4 pages commemorating the sad occasion when we lost Sandy Sanderson, the No 4 in the Fleche D'Or Squadron and 2 ATAF Formation Aerobatic Team during a practice for a display at the USAF Air Base at Spangdahlen's Armed Forces Open Day.   The accident is described in Colin Cummings excellent book Category Five as follows: "17-May-57 XG258 Hunter F.6 93 Sqn 49 degrees 58' North/06 degrees 38' East 1 Fatality.   The aircraft was one of the squadron aerobatic team and after completing the bomb burst manoeuvre, it rolled off the top and recovered from the ensuing dive.   However, the aircraft then made a straight shallow dive across the airfield and struck the ground.   It seemed probable that the pilot was distracted by conflicting requirements including the need to achieve a synchronised rejoin of formation and he did not realise how close he was to the gound.   Flight Liuetenant Brian Anthony Edmund SANDERSON aged 27."   This is the cover of the programme for the event.   (Thanks to RAF Museum.)
