APPENDIX I
CHARACTERISTICS OF SABRE MK. 4 WHEN FITTED
WITH FIXED LEADING EDGE
I. Introduction
The removal of the slats has improved the high altitude
turning performance in that the pre-stall buffet is delayed
until a slightly higher G. A small increase in speed and
rate of climb has also resulted. The low speed behaviour
has been slightly modified and the revised figures and
procedures are given below.
II. Check lists
(i) External checks
Before taxying, check that the small portion of the
leading edge of the wing root, removed for entrance to
the cockpit, has been replaced. Check both wings for
this item.
(ii) Take-off checks
(a) The check list for take-off is unchanged except for
the fore and aft trim. To trim the aircraft for take-
off, operate the tailplane trimmer until the indicator
light comes on, then trim again to move the control
column 1½" to 2" in front of the indicated position.
(b) Full flap should be used for every take-off, regardless
of the weight.
III.Take off
(i) The take-off is straightforward but the speeds given
below for raising the nosewheel and unsticking the air-
craft must be observed.
