Avon engine on display in Tech Wing for the Open Day on 19Jun57.   There was some doubt as to whether this is the 1957 Open Day.   [Resolved as 57 - click to see].   In Jun57 4 and 93 Sqns had F.6s and 98 and 118 Sqns still had F.4s.   However, the sign on the right corner looks like AVON 115, (I originally said 203), therefore it is from an F.4.   As a result of this uncertainty Brian Thornton challenged me and said "It clearly has a cartridge starter assembly whereas the 203 had the Avpin starter and it has separate combustion chambers whereas the 203 had an annular combustion chamber."   This prompted me to research pictures of both engines on the RAF Museum web site and I have added them below the main picture.   On the left is the Avon 203 and on the right is the 100 series Avon.   From the clearly separate combustion chambers and the fewer intake struts the displayed engine was a 115 Series from the Hunter F.4.   Thank you Brian!      (Thanks to John Porter.)
