Avro Canada CF-100 NQ435 Royal Canadian Air Force from Le Tonquin- Open Day Static Display RAF Jever - 6Jun59.   This is an unusual view as the CF-100, an interceptor, does not have its wing tip rocket pods.   The aircraft had no guns just the two pods of 100 2.75 inch folding fin rockets in each.   The idea was that the aircraft flew line-astern on the large Russian bombers and launched the two hundred rockets in a cloud ensuring that there would be many hits.   The pods have probably been taken off for safety as a display aircraft.   Towards the end of its life, in comparison with more modern Sabres, etc. its was rather slow and the pilots came in for some ribbing on the radio.   One day, in exasperation at being teased about his lack of guns, a CF-100 pilot pressed the transmit button and said, "Shut up! or I'll fly up alongside you and blow up!"   (Thanks to Mike Wilson.)
