Projectionists in the Astra Cinema - 1957.   L to R: Unknown, Unknown, Maurice Parker.   Maurice tells us: "Going by my get up I would say that this was taken at the time of my move from cashier up to the projection room.   I recall rewinding the large reels of film by hand ready for the next performance or before passing them on to other cinemas in the distribution circuit.   This could sometimes take some time, particularly when having to repair any damaged parts of the film.   I can also remember anxiously watching the carbon rods in the projector burning down dangerously low and hoping that they would last for the length of film still to be shown.   It would have been an embarrassing situation if you had to shut down the projector in the middle of the film to change the rods.   I do not remember this ever happening although on some occasions it was touch-and-go.   This also goes for missing the change-over cues which naturally did not go down well with the audience.   (Thanks to Maurice Parker.)
