    (c)  Maximum rate
         Set throttles closed, airbrakes out, and maintain 0.7M until
         350 knots is reached.  The rate of descent will be approxi-
         mately15,000-20,000 ft. per minute.  This descent can be
         used in cases of operational necessity; misting will be con-
         siderable at lower altitudes although the front windscreen
         will normally remain clear if a landing is made shortly after
         the descent.  In any case, a reserve of fuel should be kept to
         give time to clear the misting.  (See para.58(c).)

    67.  Circuit procedure
         NOTE:-30 gallons of fuel per engine should be allowed
               for the circuit and landing.
    (a)  Joining
         Reduce speed to 200 knots, select 1/3 flap and set 10,500
         r.p.m. to give a speed of 170 knots downwind.

	 NOTE:-If the aircraft is yawed at speeds below 170 knots
	       with the airbrakes out, the nose may drop sud-
	       denly and the elevators become ineffective until
               the yaw is removed, or the airbrakes retracted. The
               tendency is aggravated if a ventral tank is fitted.
               Airbrakes should not be used at airspeeds below
               170 knots at circuit height and should be in before
               the undercarriage is lowered.50
