
It was the end of the month and the end of the detachment. This was also the time when I was officially recognised as being an operational pilot. My assessment at
air-to-air gunnery was, unsurprisingly in the circumstances, described as 'Below Average'.

All that was left to do was the repacking and reloading in preparation for the journey home to Jever.

I, with the road convoy, left Sylt for Jever on Monday, February 1st, and, after overnighting at Ütersen, arrived the next day, on schedule, following an uneventful
journey.
