PART I-DESCRIPTIVE
(ii) landing and taxy lamps
The retractable landing and taxy lamps in the fuselage
nose are controlled by a two-position switch (56) on the
left-forward console. When the switch is set to
EXTEND & ON both lights come on and extend to the
landing position. Upon touchdown when the weight of
the aircraft compresses the starboard oleo, the landing
lamp is automatically extinguished and the taxy lamp
extends further to the taxying position and remains on.
If a "roller" landing is made with the switch in the
EXTEND & ON position, the landing lamp relights and
the taxy lamp returns to the landing position when the
aircraft "unsticks".
36. Oxygen system
NOTE.- A pressure demand mask Type A13A must be
worn.
Early aircraft up to serial No. XB. 593
(i) A type A14 pressure demand regulator is fitted and is
supplied from four Type D2 cylinders installed in the
nose. A blinker-type flow indicator and an oxygen
system pressure gauge (51) are located on the left forward
console., and the regulator on the inboard face of the
console has two controls, the pressure breathing knob
(59) and the diluter control handle (60).
(ii) The diluter control handle has two positions NORMAL
(back) and 100% OXYGEN and should be kept in the
NORMAL position except in emergency. The pressure
breathing knob should be set at NORMAL for cockpit
altitudes below 30,000 ft. (If the cockpit pressure system
is working correctly the cockpit altitude should not
exceed this height.) For cockpit altitudes between
30,000 and 40,000 ft. the knob should be turned clock-
wise to SAFETY and for cockpit altitudes above
40,000 ft. the knob should be further turned to the cock-
pit altitude.
Later aircraft from serial No. XB. 594
(iii) A type D1 pressure demand regulator is fitted. The
controls are mounted on the inboard face of the left
forward console and consist of a combined regulator
pressure gauge and visual blinker indicator (110), an
ON-OFF valve (106) below the gauge, an air inlet switch
(109) with two positions NORMAL and 100%
OXYGEN above the gauge, and an emergency switch
(107) which has three maintained positions including the
