F86E FUEL SYSTEM
There are five internal self-sealing tanks. A transfer pump, in the rear fuselage tank,
pumps fuel into the centre tank after 15 gallons are used. The drop tanks transfer
into the forward fuselage tank.
The combination of gallons and pounds is confusing. While we spoke of 100 gallon drop
tanks it was probably 100 imperial gallons. It was never made clear whether the tanks
were Imperial or US gallons. Regardless, all our thoughts were in pounds as that was
what the fuel flow meter and the all important total remaining showed.
