Video 010 showing North American F-100 Super Sabre USAF Take-off and Flypast Open Day 6Jun59.

North American F-100 Super Sabre:

The first prototype F-100 flew on 25 May 1953 and exceeded Mach 1 on its maiden flight.   The type was grounded in November 1954 after a series of unexplained crashes; however, following various modifications the F-100A began flying operationally again in February 1955 and 22 examples were built.   The next series production variant was the F-100C, which was capable of carrying out both ground-attack and interception missions.   First deliveries to the USAF were made in July 1955 and total production was 451, of which 260 went to the Turkish Air Force.   The F-100D differed from the F-100 in having an automatic pilot, jettisonable underwing pylons and modified vertical tail surfaces; it was supplied to the USAF Tactical Air Command and Denmark, France and Greece.   The TF-100C was a two-seat trainer variant and served as a prototype of the TF-100F, which flew in July 1957.   Total production of all Super Sabre variants was 2,294, many aircraft serving in Vietnam.
