This is the companion Block 36 to the Tech Wing Block 35 (click to see), they are numbered 35 & 36 on the Air Base Upjever plan (click to see).   These two blocks were built in the late 1930's, [actually 1936 from our German Building Records], as an old peoples home.   They still had the alarm and call systems in the rooms and corridors.   George understands that this was a cover for their real future use as military accommodation during the Luftwaffe re-armament just before WWII.   H block 40, (click to see 40 on station plan), and had wonderful bas-reliefs, in he thinks terracotta, surrounding the door way of each room showing scenes of the German army in action.   He was taken in to see them and always wanted to go back and take some pics but whoever it was living in that block at that time seemed an unfriendly bunch so he never did.   We had hoped to get some photographs during our visit in August 2006 but we found that the Blocks had been renovated and we could not find them.   Some of that "Unfriendly Bunch!!" found them on their visit back to Jever in May 2008.   (Click to see some pictures.)(Thanks to George Englefield-Bishop.)
