         STARTING, TAXYING AND TAKE-OFF


        57.  External checks

        (a)  Before checking aircraft:-

             Form 700				Check and sign
             Starting area Posn. of A/C		Clear and safe Suitable
						for start, wind direction.

             Chocking				Correct

             Fire extinguishers			In position

             Starter trolley acc. of correct	Available.
               voltage

        (b)  At the aircraft

              Firing and safety pins of both		Engaged through straps at
                ejection seats		 	  front of blind
              MASTER SWITCH			On
              Undercarriage			U/c lever down-Three
						green lights.
              Master switch			OFF.
              Brake pressure			Not below 200 lb./sq. in.
              Canopy and windscreen		Condition.

              NOTE-If being flown solo the safety equipment in the
                   starboard seat should be secured or removed
                   and the starboard harness sec securely fastened, with
                   the leg restraining straps in position and pulled
                   tight in the snubbing units. The safety pin
                   should be left in the front position to avoid
                   fouling the canopy.
