1960. |
1. This month turned out to be the most successful flying month despite the
expected poor weather. In fact, a considerable amount of flying time was lost either
waiting for diversions in the morning or waiting for our own weather to clear; but
all this only caused us to miss our target by 54 hours.
2. Aircraft serviceability throughout the month was good with very few days flying
starting with less than six serviceable aircraft. As usual we had one aircraft
away at the Command Modification Unit, so this is a particularly commendable effort
by the Squadron groundcrew.
3. Flying training was concentrated upon high level cine weave training. This
three week session has made a marked improvement to the Squadron's cine weave and
the standard is now as high if not higher than the standard at the A.P.S. at Sylt
last year during which detachment the Squadron achieved the Command's highest cine
weave score to date; 77.54%. Weapons training in general is now of a very high
standard on the Squadron, a standard which it is now confidently expected will be
maintained.
4. A highly successful all ranks party was held in the Squadron Navigation Room
at the end of the month. Food and suitable liquid appertiser was in abundance and a
good time was had by all. As the wives were present, dancing and other higher plane
pastimes took precedence over the usual "time honoured" songs; this proved to be
surprising pleasant - for a change!
5. Leave. The following officers took leave during the month:

6. Course. The following officers were detached on courses during the month:

(c) Fg. Off. P.D. Jarvis to R.A.F. Wildenwrath for Aviation Medicine Course.
(d) Fg. Off. D. Barr to Bad Kohlgrub W.S.S.
(e) Fg. Off. R.E. Holliday to Bad Kohlgrub W.S.S.
7. The Squadron total flying hours for the month of February 1960 was
275 hours and 251 sorties in Hunter Mark 6; and 34 hours and 46 Sorties in Hunter
