View from George's room in Flying Wing HQ, down the road on the left the end of the riding stables can be seen and just out of sight on the left was a small brick building that was the hydrogen store for the Met balloons.   George's room was the nearest to the Control tower being directly opposite across the corridor, the rooms either side of the Tower being first the Teleprinter room and the other side the Ops room - 1954.   If you examine the photo carefully you can see wires strung across the photos to the trees.   George tells me that the lads who lived in the Tower used to hire German commercial radios which came with a VHF range.   They were able to reprogramme the buttons and tune them to the Station flying frequencies and keep a check on what was happening when off duty!   The next picture shows a similar shot but with snow on the ground.   (Thanks to George Englefield-Bishop. )
