      MONDAY DECEMBER 2nd - FRIDAY DECEMBER 6th 1957
Varied weather caused some flying to be missed, notably Wednesday, when
no flying took place at all, and Friday when only two abortive sorties were flown.
The squadron pilots played football against No. 68 squadron aircrew, winning 3 - 1.
The station stood down for 48 hours after duty on Friday.

A full days firing was carried out on Monday, but snow in the

the marine section at Hornum.   Wednesday morning was devoted to basketball.

       MONDAY DECEMBER 30th - TUESDAY DECEMBER 31st 1957
The squadron started Battle Flight on Tuesday.   High Level battle
formation
was flown on Monday, but on Tuesday a combination of poor serviceability
and bad weather kept the aircraft on the ground all day.

OPERATIONAL
           (a) Training
                           (i)     The squadron continued the detachment to A.P.S. Sylt during the
first fortnight of the month, returning to R.A.F. Jever on the 16th December,1957.                            (ii)    Unfortunately the weather factor during the first fortnight
was such that only 3½ days out of 11 days available were fit for flying.   Consequently
the medium level scores obtained were low due to complete lack of continuity.
(iii)  The final results obtained by the squadron during the
detachment were as follows:-
                                     10,000 feet average     -     17.9%
                                     20,000 feet average     -     14.7%
                                             Overall average     -     16.5%
Stoppage rate        -     1 in 1376 (out of 23,400 rnds fired)
Effective firing sorties per pilot     -     11
Effective cine sorties per pilot     -         5
(iv)    The return to Jever was completed by Friday, 20th December,
but little flying time was available as the Christmas Grant occurred from 24th
December to the 29th December inclusive , followed by the preparation of aircraft
for Battle Flight commencing 31st December.
           (b) Aircraft Serviceability
                                            (i)     Little advantage could be taken of the excellent
serviceability obtained at A.P.S. Sylt - 8 or 9 aircraft serviceable per day - due
to the very bad weather factor.   All the aircraft were flown back to R.A.F. Jever
on the 16th December except the one belly damaged in the flying accident involving
Fg. Off. Rastall.
(ii)    Serviceability at the end of the month has gone
down considerably, probably due to the after effects of firing and the long period
of no flying.
