Squadron Leader "Taff" Taylor was a member of the 93 Sqn Fleche D'Or Hunter formation aerobatic team. He was born on 30Sep32 and commissioned in the Royal Air Force on 21Apr52. He was promoted to Squadron Leader on 1Jul64 and retired from the RAF on 30Sep70.
From 1961 - 64 Taffy was based at Edwards North Base, which has a single 6,000' runway. Edwards North Base was the CIA operated part of the huge Edwards complex and is located several miles north of Main Base and South Base. It lies about 150 metres into the scrub desert by the NW edge of the massive dry lake bed. It is close to the main touchdown zone for the longest lakebed runway - which in those days was routinely used by the X-15 and the early 'M2F2 lifting bodies'.
