93 Sqn Linebook No. 2 - Page 30 Recording an embarrassing incident when Clam Clayton-Jones ran out of fuel.   His explanation reads: "At Tangmere the fuel gauge read 180 gallons, but I thought that the drop tanks might be transferring late.   (I had heard that this could happen to as low as 150 gallons.)   I was handed my parcel and took straight off again, setting course for Jever.   As I was leaving the coast of U.K. it became obvious that I was not getting any fuel from the drop tanks, and I therefore set to work to calculate how I stood.   As far as I could judge I seemed to be using 10 galls in 7 minutes which gave me an overlap on Jever of twenty minutes which I considered ample.   I have the honour to be, Sir, Your obedient Servant WRClaytonJones W. R. CLAYTON-JONES FG. OFF.   (Thanks to RAF Museum.)
