Report on a Visit to German Air Force Jever by Mick Ryan, Chris Stone, Gunter Kipp and Maurice Parker
on Tuesday/Wednesday 16/17th August 2005

                      84. We began our tour from outside our overnight accommodation.   Just across the road was Building 164 which was
built in 1950.   Once the local RAF Hospital closed it was necessary to build a Maternity Unit at RAF Jever since it was
too far for expecting mums to go to the next nearest hospital which was in the clutch airfields near Munchen Gladbach.
This new unit was manned by three Princess Mary Royal Air Force Nursing Service(PMRAFNS) officers.   These were
the first female officers to be introduced to the Jever Officers' Mess in their own right.   Some die-hards resented this
but most of us made a great fuss of them and welcomed them into our community.   The top half of Block 164 furthest
from the Mess was re-furbished for them as their quarters.   The rest of the block was left empty as overflow for visiting
aircrew.   As you can see from this photograph while we were there the building was being refurbished again ready for
the large influx of the GAF Regiment units.   (Thanks Mick Ryan).
