     92.  Controlled descent through cloud with an unserviceable A.S.I.
     (a)  A guide to making a safe descent without an A.S.I. is given
          below:-

     93.  Abandoning the aircraft in flight
     (a)  Reduce speed as much as possible, then check:-
          Throttle(s)		Closed
          Seat			Fully lowered
          Gunsight		Lowered
          Harness		Tight and locked
          Helmet		Strap fastened and tight
          Hood			Jettison
          
          Then:
          Lead			Disconnected and stowed
          Harness		Released
          Airbrakes		IN (this is essential)
     (b)  (i)  Abandon the aircraft by diving over the inboard
               trailing edge of the wing.64
