I discussed the matter with
Les. The file had gone missing from the Flying Wing
Adjutant's classified secure filing cabinet. It had been my file, and my cabinet, when I
was there.
Les obtained a permit for me to ring the President of the Board so that I
could find out more. This I did. The crux of the matter, as far as I was concerned, was
whether the file was there when I left, which it was, for I remembered it well. I was
also able to explain that much of its content was routine stuff, and that I had
wondered whether or not it should have been declassified due to the relevant papers
being out of date, and that I had not got round to initiating such action. The
President was satisfied, subject to my summarising what I had said in writing. This I
did, but for speed, I arranged with
Les for a Telex to be sent as well.
10 I heard no more.
Les contacted me again. I wondered what for this time, thinking that Jever might still want me. He said "Pod, where would you like to be posted?" He gave me
a list of options which included the Far East, the UK, and Germany. Without a
second thought I opted for Germany, and asked him why I had been granted the
chance to take my pick. He explained that as Course Leader, and as he knew me,
he'd give me the choice as it made no difference to him. I next enquired as to
whether I had passed the course. He confirmed that I had but not to tell anybody
because the results would be announced the next day. What a privilege! I was going
to go back to Germany, away from UK and RAF austerity, and not to the unknown
(to me) distant Far East. I was delighted.

I was granted three weeks embarkation leave before my next posting. I would be told where that would be while on leave, but I had every confidence that it would
be somewhere in Germany.
