R.A.F. Jever July, 1960     1. OPERATIONS

The accent was on high level operational training during July; bird strike statistics prevented the Squadron's flying low level cross country sorties.   Throughout the month cine weave, cine quarters and combat were practiced, the latter also versus Canadian F. 86's attached to Ahlhorn.   Two bomber interception exercises took place, vis on 21st and 28th July.   Gunnery this month consisted in air to ground training at Strohen range from 12th to 15th July.(with operational attacks on the last day) and on 19th July an operational four-gun strike by four aircraft.   Also on 19th July four aircraft fired four guns into the sea from 43,000 ft. at Trimmingham range.   The aircraft were diverted to Coltishall immediately after this, the leader of this pair having fluctuating R.P.M. which was later discovered to be caused by the starter master circuit breaker tripping.   The Squadron carried out Battle flight from 5th to 11th July.   There were three scrambles and one practice scramble during the period.      On 3rd July, Flt.Lt. R.D. Stone gave an aerobatic display at G.A.F. Buchel in the Eifel.
