    JEVER TRAVEL INFORMATION

1px-trans.gif, 43 bytesThere are flights to Bremen from most regional airports with KLM and Lufthansa as well as various ferry crossings to the Continent, both followed either by car or train travel to Jever.   The high-speed, jet foil, car ferry crossing, that we used for last year's visit by coach, from Harwich to the Hook of Holland is believed not to run this year.

1px-trans.gif, 43 bytesFor flight information go to http://www.flights.airlinecodes.co.uk or simply type into Google the name of your regional airport to Bremen e.g. Bristol to Bremen or London City to Bremen then click GO.

1px-trans.gif, 43 bytesI've so far found the following UK departure airports to Bremen:

    Birmingham,
    Blackpool,
    Brighton,
    Bristol,
    Leeds/Bradford,
    Liverpool,
    London City,
    London Gatwick (expensive),
    London Heathrow,
London Stansted (by far the cheapest).
    Manchester,
    Newcastle,
    Southampton,

1px-trans.gif, 43 bytesThere is one change with KLM flights at Amsterdam.   Lufthansa flights may change at Paris.

1px-trans.gif, 43 bytesPrices are fairly consistent from most regional airports, but from Stansted the prices seem to be extremely cheap ranging from 1p - £5+.

1px-trans.gif, 43 bytesThe Bremen airport web site is:   http://www.airport-bremen.de

The telephone number of the Bremen Tourist Office is:
    0049 1805 1010 30
    web site: http://www.bremen-tourismus.de
    email address: btz@bremen-tourism.de

1px-trans.gif, 43 bytesA tram service runs every ten minutes or so (Number 6) between the airport and the main railway station.   The tram stops 25 yds from the airport check-in area which is very close to arrivals as well.   The journey to and from the station takes approximately 17 minutes.   A single ticket costs €1.95/£1.41 each way.   The distance is 3.5 km.   Allow 20 minutes for a taxi journey depending on traffic.

1px-trans.gif, 43 bytesThere are regular hourly trains from Bremen either to Jever itself or passing through Jever to the coast with two changes at Oldenberg and at Sande (near Wilhelmshaven). I'm told the connecting train for Jever is usually waiting in the station at Sande to immediately board.

1px-trans.gif, 43 bytesFor train information go to http://www.reiseauskunft.bahn.de and fill in your journey details.   The train journey takes approximately 1 hr 40 minutes with the two changes.

1px-trans.gif, 43 bytesOne is not able to book the journey until 80 or so days beforehand.   The name of the railway station at Jever is: ZOB/Bahnhof, Jever.

    1px-trans.gif, 43 bytesThe Jever Tourist Office email address is: tourist-info@stadt-jever.de Telephone number: 0049 4461 710 10.

1px-trans.gif, 43 bytesHotel accommodation is plentiful in Bremen and Wilhelmshaven, less so in Jever.   (Information given in our brief for the 2006 visit you may find helpful - click to see).   However, the Schutzenhof Hotel (tel: 0049 44 6193 70) is still operating as a hotel after all these years with good DB&B rates.   Three of our visitors who made their own way there last year stayed at the Schutzenhof.   I'm told by the tourist office that the hotels in Jever are not exceptional, but still very nice and comfortable.   Check out http://www.tourisline.de for hotel accommodation.
Maurice Parker, our local man who lives in Schortens has written with the following:

1px-trans.gif, 43 bytesIt will be a pleasure to see you over here and anyone else come to that. I have extracted the important pages and they are reproduced below.   Should anyone be interested then please let me know and I will mail them a copy.
