VENOM - de Havilland Venom and Sea Venom
The Complete History by David Watkins
Forward by Squadron Leader Brian Mercer AFC
Review by Mike Dennis: Having read many books giving the history of individual aircraft types, this one certainly stands out, well written, very'easy and enjoyable reading' with so much interesting information. Never imagined that there was so much to learn about the Venom.
The RAF appeared to consider that aircraft were becoming 'past their sell by date' after only 700 hrs flying. The early 'wing failures'.............The many lives lost before aircraft were fitted with lightweight ejection seats............New aircraft were with squadrons for as little as 17 months before they were consigned to the scrapheap.............Some new aircraft only made their delivery flight to maintenance units where they languished until they were used as 'maintenance airframes' or scrapped.
Quite an amazing history, must be one of the better books covering 'aircraft types'. Well done!
