JEVER 1.12.56   Bad weather prevented flying this morning.   An unfortunate accident in the Central
Armoury resulted in the death of one of the Squadron airmen, No. 584079 Cpl Graham, G.A.

  2.12.56   Stand-down.
3.12.56   Only a few sorties were flown first thing this morning and then flying ceased to enable
preparations to be made for the funeral tomorrow of Cpl. Graham.

4.12.56   The squadron attended the funeral of Cpl. Graham in Hamburg.
5.12.56   Amber 3 conditions prevailed for most of the morning, about 10 cine sorties being flown.
6.12.56   Four of the Squadron's aircraft took part in Exercise 'Argus' today.   This involved
landing at Geilenkirchen.   They left at about 09.00 hours and arrived back at 15.30
hours.   The aircraft left on the squadron were used for individual trips.

7.12.56   Flying was completely washed out today by low cloud and bad visibility.
8.12.56   No flying again due to fog.
  9.12.56   Stand-down.
10.12.56   Low cloud and bad visibility prevented flying until 15.00 hours today.   One pair got
airborne but were diverted to Sylt due to a blocked runway.   They managed to get back at 16.30 hours.

11.12.56   The Squadron started 'battle flight' today and a total of 17 hours were flown, mainly
in pairs on a standing patrol system.

12.12.56   The first pair on Battle Flight got airborne but fog rolled in just afterwards and they
were diverted to Sylt.   No further flying took place.

13.12.56   The Squadron, whilst still maintaining Battle Flight, took part in Exercise Guest today.
Our object was to maintain a standing patrol round the Station against low flying
aircraft.   This was maintained from first light until a storm brought flying to an end
at 15.45 hours.   A total of 22½ hours were flown.

14.12.56   Twelve Battle Flight sorties were flown today before the Station stood down for the
week-end to attend 2nd. T.A.F. Rugby Finals.

  15.12.56   Stand-down.
JEVER 16.12.56   Stand-down.
17.12.56   Better weather enabled a full days flying to take place and also about 8 hours night
flying.   The Squadron's final day on Battle Flight produced some good P.I.'sand High
Level battle.   An overall total of 26 hours were flown on Hunters.

18.12.56   A reasonable days flying, the concentration being placed on pairs flying, i.e. cine etc.
The weather once again clamped at 15.15 hours.

19.12.56   No flying today due to fog.
20.12.56   Once again fog washed out flying for the day.
21.12.56   The fog cleared at about 10.30 hours today and 22½ hours were flown on Hunters, mainly
on cine exercises.   A very good day with regard to serviceable aircraft.

22.1.57   Battle Flight for the squadron commenced today, as we have taken over 93 Squadrons stint
to enable them to carry on with their Sylt work-up.   Seven sorties were flown and 24
P.I.'s carried out.   Syllabus trips were flown by the remaining available aircraft and
27.15 hours were logged.

23.1.57   In spite of being only a half day, 19 hours were lown.   Ths was achieved by good
serviceability and fair weather.   9 P.I.'s were done with a varying standard of control.
It wouild appear that the U/T controllers have not yet quite got he hang of high
altitude interceptions.

24.1.57   Poor visibility kept the airfield Red until 11.35 hours when Battle Flight were scrambled.
Therafter the conditions varied, but some 22 hours was a satisfactory achievement under
the circumstances.   Battle Flight had five trips and made 11 P.I.'s with again varying
results.   Aircraft serviceability fluctuated a lot but a certain amount of interest
came from air to ground firing in the T.11.   One trip before the range went U/S.

25.1.57   Once again the airfield was Rec and Battle Flight did not get off until 09.40 hours.
The weather did not improve beyond Amber 2 conditions, but we flew 20.40 hours with the
aid of Battle Flight.   The standard of P.I.'s was generally better and battle flight
also carried out a number of other interceptions.

26.1.57   Red all morning and there was no flying.   The squadron has been informed that we shall be
going to Sylt on Feb. 11th.   No's 4 and 93 squadrons who might be said to be bettering
themselves, are not over popular at the moment.

27.12.56   Stand-down.   The armourers workd on the packages and aircraft with the Sylt detachment
firmly in mind.

28.1.57   A sound day's flying resulted in27.10 hours being logged.   This was mainly flown by
battle flight which was maintained with a very minimum of pilots due to one reason and
another.   P.I.'s improve although the controllers appreciation of the turning circle
above 40,000 feet ie still not good.   Three night trips were flown.   Sqn. Lsr.
N.C.P. Buddinwent to Sylt in the afternoon to discuss the forthcoming attachment and
brought back a Meteor 8 for Flag towing to ebable some Sylt quarters cine to be carried
out.

29.1.57   Although battle flight normally stands down on Monday evening, it would appear that
someone is trying to do us down as we are on battle flight again today.   With half the
aircraft disarmed and the rest in pieces, the squadron was at standby all day and missed
out a good days flying.

30.1.57   Airfield was Red for the morning and ground crew continued preparing the Aircraft for
Sylt.

31.1.57   Low cloud base, at times on the ground, and poor visibility prevented flying for the
day.   Lectures for the aircrew took place in Flying Wing and the groundcrew again worked
on the aircraft.
