JEVER 1.6.56                                                 OPERATIONAL
             Not a good start to the month's flying, with only 12 sorties being flown in 6
pairs this being due to the weather status of 'Amber'.   Flt. Lt. Goodwin flew down to
Wahn in preparation for his aerobatic display at Butzweilerhof on the 3rd., July.
 
  2.6.56                Only an air-test was flown this morning.   The aircrew attended lectures and the
ground-crew were servicing the aircraft for a good start to next week.
 
  3.6.56                Stand-down.  
  4.6.56                Eight aircraft were available and some 24 hours were logged to cine details at
35,000ft.   Three I.F. trips in T11's'were also flown.
 
  5.6.56                The Squadron took over Battle Flight and flew 24 sorties logging 15 P.I.'s
under GCI control.   Altogether 34 hours were flown then later 3 syllabus trips on the
extra aircraft.
 
  6.6.56                Aircraft availability was zero, four being required for Battle Flight who had 3
hours 50, making 3 P.I.'s with fairly good results.   A further 7 syllabus trips were
flown, making the total for the morning's flying 16.25 hours.   Sports afternoon.
 
  7.6.56                A good flying day resulted in 27.30 hours being logged.   Battle Flight had 6
scrambles and made 31 P.I.'s under GCI, quite a few of them being between sub-sections.
Nine syllabus trips, including 5 low level (2,000ft) cross-countries ????? very
well.   The aircraft state was 7 for most of the day.
 
  8.6.56                The weather was not too bad early in the morning, but Battle Flight pilots flew
the customary 6 trips, doing 17 P.I.'s.   Some aircraft were available for the afternoon
and altogether 32 hours were flown, putting us well short of the target.
 
JEVER 9.6.56                Once again the cloud base was low and Battle Flight were the only Squadron aircraft
to fly, logging some hours and 7 P.I.'s.   The standard of GCI control is not
particularly good at high altitude.   Fg.Off. Craig flew an aircraft later this morning
to Fassberg for a static display ??????? to the I.D.C., before which body
Flt. Lt. Goodwin ???? his aerobatic display.
 
JEVER 10.6.56                Stand-down.  
  11.6.56                Only sufficient aircraft to meet Battle Flight ???? duty.   ?????? ??? to????
???? it was not possible to get four aircraft into the air on the scramble.   Apart
from which only 11.50 hours flown.
 
  12.6.56                The airfield ???? for most of the day.   Flt. Lt. Fewell ??? to only flying air
test - late in the afternoon.   Flt. Lt. Goodwin flew a restricted aerobatic display to
the IDC at Fassberg.
 
  13.6.56                A fair day's flying produced 11½ hours.   cine quarters at 35,000 ft. were the main
exercises.   Fg. Off. Faulkes ????? forced landing in manual control on the airfield
then he could not ????? his undercarriage down after it had dropped in a high-speed
right turn.   The course ?????????.
 
  14.6.56                With 4 night details 33.35 hours were logged, the main ???? being ?????? at
33,000 ft. One pilot ???? ???? was given a conversion trip.   Bad weather cancelled the 2nd. detail of night -flying, but the Squadron is still well short the target.
 
  15.6.56                Only the morning was suitable for flying and 10 ????? were flown???? were
practiced at ????? and two conversion trips were flown.
 
  16.6.56                Stand-down.  
  17.6.56               Stand-down.  
  18.6.56                aircraft serviceability was poor and ??????? was flown for the day, as the
weather made the airfield 'Amber' this was not a great ???.   cine quarters at 30.ooo ft.
and tailchases were the main details flown for a total of 11.15 hours.   4 night
details brought the total to 18.15 hours.
 
  19.6.56                Another ???? for both weather and aircraft, and only syllabus trips were logged.
cine quarters at 30,000 ft. were again the main exercises flown.
 
  20.6.56                Four aircraft were serviceable and 6.25 hours were logged for the morning's flying.
The weather ?????? in the ????? ????.   A rehearsal flypast for the Italian Chief of
Staff took place in the morning.
 
JEVER 21.6.56                aircraft serviceability was poor in the morning and only went on to ?? in the afternoon.
After a flypast for the Italian Chief of Staff, who visited the Station on his way
south from Sylt.   A few syllabus trips in the morning gave a total o 34.50 hours.
 
  22.6.56                A fairly good day's flying ???? with five of the Squadron's aircraft flying over
the airfield in varying formations.   HLB and co-ordinated ???? were the main details
and 1850 hours were logged.
 
  23.6.56                No flying was done in the morning as the aircrew attended lectures in Flying
Wing Headquarters and in the Squadron and the groundcrew were servicing aircraft in the
hangar.
 
  24.6.56                Stand-down.  
  25.6.56                A good day's flying in indifferent weather gave some 30 hours flying.   HLB and
cine quarters the most part of the exercises.
 
  26.6.56                The North-Westerly airstream is still with us and sometimes gives almost
complete cloud coverage.   Quarters at 30,000 ft. and syllabus trips were the main details.
???? ???? ???? ????? was logged by the pilots , 17.35 hours was the total.
 
  27.6.56                Five aircraft were serviceable for the morning's flying and ??? 10 hours were
logged.   ??? details of air/sea firing and ??? 22.25 hours was the total.
 
  28.6.56                Average serviceability of aircraft enabled ???? 14 hours to be flown in indifferent
weather.   The main exercises were quarters at 30,000' and QGH's.
 
  29.6.56                14 hours were flown bringing the Squadron well ???? the monthly target.   In the
afternoon a ???interception was carried out although 11 was sighted as intercepting
was not possible.   ?? air/sea details were fired.
 
  30.6.56                Stand-down.
