ROUGH GUIDE TO 118 SQUADRON REUNION

GUEST OF HONOUR:       WING COMMANDER JOHN C FREEBORN D.F.C. and BAR.

Wednesday 27th September 2006

51 ATTENDED

2 tables, laid out with name badges, were outside the Blenheim Suite at 6:30, hopefully to help with recognition (50+ years may have changed us).

At 6:30 there were drinks before dinner in the Balmoral Bar.
Graham Lloyd sent a cheque to pay for everyone's first drink.   Graham was a pilot on the Squadron in 1941.   Unfortunately he could not attend.

Dinner was at 7:30 in the Blenheim Suite.   There were 4 round tables of 10 seats and 1 of 11. Free seating, no named places.

Dress: Lounge suits or Jackets and Ties.
Menu: Tropical fruit cocktail.
Roast lamb with mint sauce.
Apple pie with cream.
Coffee with chocolate mints.
Vegetarian Menu: Fan of melon with fruit and served with a raspberry coulis.
Cheese and broccoli bake. (Broccoli florets simmered in a herbal mornay sauce then gratinated and baked until golden).

Thursday 28th September 2006

English breakfast was served in the restaurant between 07:00 and 10:00.

A Jaguar coach took us from the hotel at 09:45.   Jaguar laid on a buffet lunch after we looked at their sports building.

SQUADRON CREST

I have been unable to locate the Squadron crest.   The le Mesurier diaries were returned to him when the Squadron disbanded at Jever.   Pete Hunwick and Peter Jones handed them to him in his London office.   I have tried to contact him, but have had no luck.   I did manage to contact the WW2 adjutant’s family who informed me that if was still alive he would be 105!

As you will notice from the guest list below we managed to contact more Squadron members, unfortunately we found some that have died.   Fassberg people will be sorry to hear, Roy Malpass, Peter "Basher" Bates in 2005 and Chris Clayton just 1 month ago.
