OPERATIONS
Quite a number of hours were flown during the month even though a few days were
unfit for flying because of snow and ice on the runway.
Two "Full House" exercises were held at the end of the month in preparation for the
Sassoon Trophy which is being competed for in February.
Five pilots were converted on to the Swift this month which included the Station
Commander Group Captain I.S. Smith, O.B.E., D.F.C. Two of the other four were squadron pilots and two were visitors from the Handling Squadron at Boscombe Down.
Another Swift was returned this month. It was flown to Aldergrove via Benson by Flight Lieutenant B. Wallis, and so far one replacement has been received.
Two pilots, Flight Lieutenant A. Martin and Flying Officer G.E. Hagan spent two
weeks on the Winter Survival Course at Bad Kohlgrub and both survived. Flight Lieutenant A.K. Ibbett assumed command of "A" Flight from Flight
Lieutenant J.R. Green who was posted to Empire Test Pilots School. Social
The Squadron officers dined out Flight Lieutenant J.R. Green this month before he
was posted which produced another fearful squadron hangover the following morning.
