MARCH, 1958
Operational
The squadron flew more hours this month than for some time, which included a lot of
night flying. This was achieved despite some interference from frequent snow showers,
which caused a number of non-flying days at the beginning of the month.
Flight Lieutenant R. J. Bannardd and Flying Officer A. Newing flew to Bruggen in two
Swifts for a visit from H. R. H. The Duke of Edinburgh on the 10th March.
Two Pilots, Flight Lieutenant D. Ives and Lieutenant B. G. Hoddinott spent a night
away at Norway on Exercise "Northern Light". Their route; Base - Aalborg - Sola -
Carup - Base, took a total of 3 1/2 hours flying and proved a very pleasant trip in
excellent weather.
Exercise "Fullhouse" was again held quite successfully on 25th March, 18 sorties
being flown.
Admin
Flight Sergeant Parkes, B.E.M., was posted back to U.K. due to illness of his wife.
He had been on the squadron for 2 years 3 months and has been a great help in the
conversion from Meteors to Swifts.
