  FEBRUARY,
1958
Snow and ice have done much to prevent flying this month, but even so there was a
slight improvement in hours on last month.   The weather has also interfered with
aircraft serviceability in as much that slippery taxi ways and runways were sanded, and
the sand collected on the undercarriage up locks, causing wheels to lock up.   Two -
two wheel landings were attempted.   The first by Fg. Off. J. Hugill, and the second by
Flt. Lt. R. J. Bannard.   Fg. Off. Hugill was the most fortunate of the two as during
the landing run his wing tip hit the ground and knocked the stuck wheel down into the
locked position.   The landing run was continued on three wheels.

Four new pilots have joined the squadron this month, Flt. Lt. B. Wallis, who was
range safety officer at Strohen Range, arrived on the 3rd.   Flt. Lt's. A. Martin and
R. Rimington, both Q.F.I.'s arrived from Workshop on the 12th, and Flt. Lt. D. Burton
arrive from the Ferry Unit at Benson on the 17th.

On the 26th, Flt. Lt. J. R. Green went to England for an interview concerning a
six week posting in the U.S.A.

On the 24th, Flt. Lt. J. Whittam and L. A. Boyer took two Swifts to Sylt to
carry out gun firing trials in an attempt to improve the stoppage rate.

Exercise "Fullhouse" was held on the 24th, 13 sorties were flown, but the exercise
was spread over two days, owing to weather.
