    Operational Diary, July, 1960
Introduction

      1.     This month the Squadron operated under semi - dispersal conditions from mobility
vehicles owing to repairs that are being carried out on our own hangar and pans.

       Operations.
      2.     The Squadron was on Battle Flight from 12 th. to 18 th. of the month, and were only
called upon for two scrambles during the period.
3.     It has been decided to use seven of the Squadron's aircraft for the CASEAUX
gunnery work up at SYLT, and the competition itself.  Our aircraft have been chosen
due not only to last month's results, but also because they have the best maintained
and most accurate weapons systems in the Command.
4.     As a result of the work required in preparing seven of our aircraft for SYLT, the
number available for normal flying was considerably reduced.  This, together with the
usual post A.P.S. detachment, servicing, further cut down the month's flying.
5.     The Squadron concentrated on high level battle tactics, and combat.  The latter
was arranged with G.A.F. AHLHORN sabres and 93 Squadron.  Once again it was proved
that the Sabre Mk.6 is to be treated with great respect at altitude.  This Phase of
training showed that with a little practice the Squadron was again well up to the
high standards, D.F.C.S. had reported of it.
6.     The Squadron took part in two Bomex exercises on the 21st. and again on the
26 th. of the month.
7.     Two pilots Flt. Lt. J. WALKER and Fg. Off. P.D. Jarvis continued cine weave practice
this month, as they have been chosen to go to SYLT for the CASEAUX eliminations.
8.     Flying hours for the month were lower than normal for the reasons already stated.

                     Total Hours .     Operational Hunter 6.   245:30

      9.     The repairs to our hangar and its pans are expected to be completed by the
12 th. August.  The Squadron looks forward to operating once more from a more
permanent establishment.

      Personnel
      10.     Only one officer - Flt. Lt. J. WALKER - took leave this month.

WEST RAYNHAM.
12.     Fg. Off. P.D. Jarvis was promoted to Flight Lieutenant with the customary
celebrations .  Snr.Tech. Henderson, S. was promoted to Chf.Tech.

      14.     On return to Jever, the Squadron was invited en masse to the Summer Ball at
G.A.F. AHLHORN by our friends on the Sabre Squadron with whom we have completed two
A.P.S. detachments.  Needless to say our representatives stayed to the end which was
somewhat prolonged by their presence to seven A.M.
