Ff 29Sep55 Hugh Merewether, HAL Blackpool, TI's, HSA Dunsfold, 13Oct59 converted to FR10, delivered 22Dec60, 19MU St Athan, 4Sqn G Gutersloh 3Feb61, 24Jan67 Crashed into a hill near Furstenburg.   The aircraft took off from Gutersloh on a low level daylight recce and was briefed to return to base if the weather prevented the sortie being completed.   Apart from a call shortly after take off, nothing was heard of the aircraft and it was subsequently found crashed on a saddle of land between two hills and about 2 miles west of the planned track.   The weather at the time was stated to be very poor visibility with the tops of the hills being in cloud.   Pilot was Master Pilot Thomas Lionel Ratcliffe aged 43.   (Thanks to David Griffin.)
