1st Flt 16Jan57 by David Lockspeiser; delivered 11Feb57 to 5MU Kemble; 4Sqn A 19Mar57; to 26 Sqn as L on 11Jun58; to 5MU on 11Jan61 to HSA. Converted to FGA9, which involved installing a full tropical kit, gun blast deflectors, stronger inboard pylons, Explosive Release Units on the outboard pylons, braking parachute and fitting of an Avon 207 engine., delivered 11Jun65, 20Sqn O 11Jan66, crashed near Tengah, W/O 22Jul68.   Colin Cumming's book "Category Five" reports it as follows: "Returning from a high level sortie, the pilot, Chris Pinder, experienced hydraulic failure, exacerbated by an asymmetric undercarriage leg when first selecting undercarriage down.   Having overshot his first approach, the pilot attempted a very tight circuit in manual control but was subsequently unable to prevent the aircraft rolling to port and so, from about 800 feet he ejected and was rescued by a passing Whirlwind helicopter".   (Thanks to David Griffin.)
