Yet again the second Saturday hoves into view and 1996 makes it the 13th January.   Arrangements will be pretty much bog-standard with the "Three Compasses" being exclusively reserved for our AGM.   Doors open at 18.30 hours with an extension to 23.59 hours.

Last year's experiment with 'pub grub' rather than finger-held fodder appears to have been well received and will be repeated this year.   I, for one, found the greater absorbency factor of considerable benefit whilst traversing the Holborn escalator in the early hours.    There is, however, no need for the 'purists' to fret as dingleberries will still be available to be washed down with the limpopo-flavoured Pils.

There was a good average turn-out of shareholders for this year's (95) AGM which made for an entertaining evening with no major fall-out to note.   During the evening Barry Dale and Pete Jarvis phoned in from the Alps where, they explained, they were conducting high level research into the effect of white stains on brown underwear.   From much slurred detail I gathered that the close proximity of a couple of avalanches had rather ruined the pristine quality of their samples but they were nevertheless pressing on.   We look forward to an up-date shortly.

The "Golden Share" award this year was presented to Peter Baines in recognition of his noble efforts in managing our photocopying and postal arrangements.   Much appreciated, Peter.

Thank you all for your responses to the survey, letters, notes and the card.   I hope to come to you in the New Year with some thoughts on the "40th" in 1979.    Suffice to say, at this stage, the second Saturday with the pub format remains the first choice for the AGM.    As an additional note, should anyone wish to contact me any evening midweek, my bachelor flat number in Churchdown village, Glos., is 01452 856775.

The really good news this year is that I have no sad news to pass amongst you.   Keep taking the 'Pils', fellas, something seems to be working.

As usual I enclose an updated version of the Basket and Outer Basket list and as always would welcome any amendments/additions etc.

Finally, may I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.    I look forward to see you at "Steaming Time" (18.30 hours).   For those not able to make it this year, next year (1997) will be on 12th January, same time, same place — see you there.    Should any of this change, be assured you will be advised in good time.

P.S. Don't forget, target 1997 - the revised "fortieth"
