Thanks to Eric Pigdon we have just been informed that a regular attendee at our annual meetings has died, she was Ann Roberts the wife of Ed (Robby) Roberts our Sqdn Ldr Airfield Constructor. Robby was at Jever Oct 54 to 57 except for a period away at St Kilda, his main works at Jever was the runway extension, new Naafi and the underground bunker and unit at Brockzetal. A keen rugby player and well liked and respected. Ann was 85 and was at Jever for almost all of the time Robby was on the station, she was the sister of Jan wife of Ken Williams who was ex Fassburg and on 98 Sqn. at Jever, leaving the RAF early to train and fly with BOAC in about 1955. The funeral Service is at Oakly Wood North Chapel, Warwick. GPS - CY33 9QP on 12 Jan 16 at 1430 hrs. Refreshments afterwards at The Glebe Hotel, Church Street, Barford. CV35 8BS. Thanks to his son we learnt the sad news of the death of our President Air Commodore Pat King, yesterday Sunday 8th November 2015 in hospital after a short illness. He was aged 80. The service will take place at Peterborough Crematorium at 2.30pm this Tuesday 17th November. The address is Mowbray Road, Peterborough, PE6 7JE and Phone Number 01733 262 639. Thanks to Mick Davis we learned of the death of Maurice Gavan of 101 Signals Unit and RAF Jever. Maurice died in Blackburn Royal Hospital on Tuesday, 20 October 2015. His funeral will take place in Clitheroe, Lancs on Tuesday, 27th October 2015 at 11.00am. Thanks to Herbert Frost added, his last, a photo of RAF Sylt Refueller fire at installation. Driver was on top of his tanker to connect it to the installation when his refueller caught fire. Thanks to Maurice Parker added a photo showing that now that the trees and bushes have been cleared one has an almost un-obstructed view from the ex Malcolm Club of our day over to SHQ. On the right the recently added Tornado Gate Gardian on the site of the former Station Chapel - 24Aug14. The GAF Tornado IDS is in the colours of the Fighter/Bomber Wing 38 "Friesland" ( 1983 - 2003 ) This was the representative aircraft used for its 20th Anniversary in 2003. After disbandment of the Wing at Jever and after nearly 4000 flying hours, the aircraft became the Gate Gardian of the 4th. Luftwaffe Division H.Q. in Aurich. After disbandment of the 4th. in 2013 the aircraft was returned to Jever were it was refurbished by the MU before taking up its present position, together with the F-104 Starfighter, at the Main Gate in 2014.
