Poor weather prevented an early start to flying.   By 14.20 hrs Meppen range became

interspersed by high level battle formation exercises.
                                  Sabre Sorties 26      Hours  25.10.

in case of unserviceability.   There were four scrambles in all; each for practice
interceptions under the control of 'PUBLIX' .   The standard of interceptions still
varies widely between good and poor.
Other flights were of a general nature principally low flying aerobatics and level
quarter attacks at 5,000.
                                          Sabre Sorties  33        Hours  35.

10.8.54   A party of combined Cadet Force Cadets from Westminster school visited the squadron

cloud and rain all flying stopped at 15.30 hrs.
                                 Sabre Sorties  26           Hours  19.45.

13.8.54   The squadron provided five aircraft for Battle Flight.   Only two scrambles took place

be cancelled.   By 14.00 however, a clearance allowed full firing throughout the
afternoon.
Six aircraft taking off at 19.20 carried out high level battle formation, tail
chase, and controlled descent, landing at 20.15 hrs. (dusk).

The main accent on this months activities has been Air to Ground firing and air to
air cine exercises.   On the side of to air to ground firing there has been some
improvement, but the Squadron average of 5.8% is still well below the desired target.
With the increase in air firing the squadron stoppage rate for the month, has
improved to the just acceptable figure of one stoppage per 3332 rounds fired.
In addition to the 362 hours flown on Sabres the squadron flew 61.40 hours
on the various training aircraft- mainly the Meteor 7, Vampire T11 and the Prentice.
