No. 2 Group or 2nd T.A.F.   As August Grant started at lunch time today flying was restricted.

  7.8.58        Flt. Lt's. G.O. Eades, F.R. Lund, J.D. Hawtin and Fg. Off's. A.A. Boyle, P. Jones, and
P.F. Hunwick went to Karup with four aircraft on a detachment to the Royal Danish Air
Force.   Four aircraft of the R.D.A.F. arrived at Jever on an exchange detachment.

  11.8.58        Fg. Off.'s W.B. Maish and B.H. Dale arrived back from Sylt for a week, before
competing in the final shoot.

  12.8.58        Fg. Off. M. Tyrrell joined us from No. 43 Squadron.   Fg. Off. P. Jones arrived from
Karup with one unserviceable aircraft.   Fg. Off.'s W.B. Maish and B.H. Dale continued
their gunnery and cine' practice in their aircraft.   Two aircraft serviceable all day
- but airfield was red until 11.00 hours.

  13.8.58        Pre-Sylt training started - Flt. Lt. C.J. Barrey got two flags up for us.   Flt. Lt.
G.O. Eades
brought 548 (H) back from Karup with booster pump trouble and returned with 638 (D)

  14.8.58        Only the gunnery team flew.   Flt. Lt. F.R. Lund went on leave to get married.

U - Uncle returned from Laarbruch.   Fg. Off. W.B. Maish and B.H. Dale continued their

  18.8.58        No sorties flown.   Danish pilots of 724 Squadron visited G.C.I. control in the afternoon.
Flt. Lt. P.F. Hunwick returned with D - Delta to make the pair for Battle Flight beginning
Thursday Morning.

  19.8.58        Squadron started Battle Flight, while the remaining pilots returned from Karup -
Flt. Lt. R.W. Millward and Flt. Lt. J.D. Hawtin flew the remaining two Hunters back.
In reverse the Danish Pilots went back to Denmark.   Sqn. Ldr. T.J. McElhaw and Flt. Lt.
G.O. Eades
took their promotion exams.

  20.8.58        Airfield was red for half the day.   No extra aircraft than those on Battle Flight.
There was no flying at all.

  21.8.58        The airfield again red until midday.   Flt. Lt. R.W. Millward at last took XE590 (V)
to Laarbruch and returned in one of 93rd Aircraft.

  22.8.58        The Squadron stopped flying because of the necessity to get 8 or 10 aircraft for
Sylt.   There was no flying at all.

  25.8.58        Ceased flying in preparation for Sylt.   A good flying day.   Fg. Off. P. Jones gave a
lecture on the new technical system.   There was no flying at all.

  26.8.58        Battle Flight finished.   Fg. Off. J. Farley gave a lecture on wind tunnels

  27.8.58        Sqn. Ldr. T.J. McElhaw returned from leave.   Flt. Lt. P.F. Hunwick gave a lecture on
escape and the emergency organisation in 2nd T.A.F.

  29.8.58        The convoy departed for Sylt - officer in charge was Flt. Lt. P.F. Hunwick.   It
departed R.A.F. Jever 0515 hours, and arrived at R.A.F. Sylt 1910 hours.   The journey was uneventful
except for two small break downs.   Everybody arrived on time.

2nd T.A.F. team, shooting against Belgiums, Canadians, French, Germans and Dutch.
