Flying did not start today until 09.00 hours as all squadron pilots were required
for a full briefing on Exercise "Fullplay". This, the summer N.A.T.O. Exercise was
due to start early next morning. Because of the requirement for good serviceability
during the three day Exercise the squadron flew a very limited programme of syllabus
flying.

At 03.30 hours (local) the squadron had six pilots at readiness for Exercise
"Fullplay". However the Exercise was slow to start and the first bomber kills were
not claimed until late in the morning. The Exercise continued until 21.00 hours and
during the day the squadron claimed 4 fighters and 5 bombers. Between the hours of
04.30 (Local) and 20.30 (Local) the squadron maintained one pair of aircraft and pilots
at five minute readiness for Battle Flight.

The Exercise continued today but at a much quicker pace and with the squadron
maintaining 3 pairs of aircraft for most of the day many scrambles were carried out
and the squadron claimed 3 fighters and 26 bombers. The squadron again maintained
one pair at five minutes for Battle Flight.
Flt. Lt. R.H. Barraclough left the squadron for flying duties in England.

Exercise "Fullplay" continued today but flying was very much restricted by firstly
bad weather and then during late afternoon by the lack of targets. However,
the squadron were able to claim the following, 7 fighters and 13 bombers.
Between the hours of 04.30 and 20.30 (Local) one pair of aircraft were at five
minutes readiness on Battle Flight.

Normal training flying was resumed today apart from the one pair held at 5 minutes
on Battle Flight. Seven Green Salad training exercises were carried out.

Due to bad weather, unserviceability and Battle Flight, the squadron flew a very
limited programme of syllabus flying.

During the day the squadron concentrated its flying onto cine and low level strike
exercises. A night flying programme was attempted but was severely curtailed by bad
serviceability and only four sorties were flown.

The Queen's Birthday was celebrated by holding the customary parade on which the
Squadron Standard was flown.
The rest of the day was a holiday.
During the day the squadron pilots lost by 9 runs to the No. 93 Squadron cricket

Today 12 sorties of air to ground cine were flown in preparation for live firing
on Monday. Four demonstrations were carried out in the T.11.
Fg. Off. A.R.W. MacNae lost his canopy soon after take-off. The aircraft [(Z) XG262] received
Cat. 4 damage but Fg. Off. A.R.M. MacNae was unhurt.

The squadron today flew 12 sorties of air to ground for an average of 33.6%. In
the evening the squadron flew six sorties of night X-Countries.
Five pilots during the afternoon practices their dinghy drill in the Station
swimming pool.

In the morning the squadron continued their air to ground programme, but due to
Exercise "Kingpin" in the afternoon, they were only able to fly 8 sorties. The
squadron average at the end of the day was 31.7%.

No air to ground was attempted today because of bad weather, and instead the
squadron flew a limited syllabus programme.
In the afternoon flying ceased so that the squadron could participate in the Inter-

Once again the squadron with no special exercise commitments concentrated their
flying on cine exercises. The following officers departed for Berlin to play tennis

Lewis.

During the very uneventful day the squadron flew seven syllabus training sorties.
The aircraft serviceability remained very poor while the number of pilots available
continued to decrease.

Today given better serviceability the squadron flew 21.55 hours, concentrating
mainly on high level battle formation.
Three sorties of night G.C.A's and circuits were flown, the remainder of the night
flying programme being cancelled because of suspected fog formation.

During the morning bad serviceability again hampered the squadrons flying effort
and only four syllabus sorties were flown. Flying in the afternoon was cancelled so
that the squadron could support Fg. Off. J.D. Hawtin and S.A.C. Robertson, W, running
for R.A.F. Jever in the Northern Area Athletics Championships at Jever.

Today we had a total of four serviceable aircraft and continued with Battle
formation flying at high level. Flying Officer P. Jones' instrument rating was raised from White to Green.

Todays flying was concentrated on cine at 25,000 feet until mid-afternoon when the
aircraft were used for syllabus trips. A night flying programme was scheduled but had
to be cancelled owing to fog. Flying Officer D.G. Hipperson has now gone to Sylt for a Work-up
period in connection with the AIRCENT gunnery competition.
